About the role
Quantum Sensing SMEThe Opportunity: Are you excited by the challenge of understanding the diverse landscape of quantum sensors? Do you thrive at the intersection of advanced science, scalable engineering, and mission‑driven innovation? Are you excited by the prospect of crafting resilient supply chains for emerging technologies? If you’re eager to accelerate the commercialization of quantum sensors, we have an opportunity that aligns with your passion.
As a Quantum Scientist specializing in quantum sensing, you will support the strategic assessment of emerging quantum sensing technologies and their potential transition into commercial and government markets. This role is focused on evaluating the practical adoption potential of advanced quantum sensors rather than advancing the underlying science. The ideal candidate will understand how sensing technologies move from laboratory demonstrations to deployable products and will provide guidance on commercialization, manufacturing, integration, ruggedization, scalability, and customer adoption. Their strategic outlook will be grounded in practical experiences in labs or on manufacturing floors, where they have worked as scientists or engineers to design, simulate, or build quantum sensors.
You SME will work closely with technical experts and program leadership to identify which technical advances would create meaningful value for end users and accelerate market adoption.
What You’ll Work On: • Assess commercial market opportunities and adoption drivers for quantum sensing technologies. • Evaluate emerging sensor concepts against incumbent and state-of-the-art sensing solutions. • Analyze manufacturability, scalability, supply chain requirements, and production cost considerations. • Evaluate system integration requirements, deployment challenges, and operational constraints. • Assess ruggedization, reliability, maintainability, and fieldability requirements for real-world environments. • Advise on product-market fit, customer value propositions, and commercialization pathways. • Develop recommendations regarding technology readiness, transition potential, and market relevance. • Participate in technical and strategic discussions with program leadership and subject matter experts. • Produce concise assessments, briefing materials, and decision-support recommendations.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have: • 5+ years of experience in quantum sciences research or commercialization • Experience with quantum sensors • Experience with design, testing, or evaluation using atom interferometers, atomic clocks, quantum magnetometers, quantum RF sensors, or quantum gravimeters • Experience bringing complex hardware technologies from development into commercial or operational deployment such as technology transition or commercialization strategy • Ability to evaluate technical innovations from both technical and business perspectives • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance • Master’s degree in Physics or Engineering
Nice If You Have: • Experience with quantum sensing, photonics, precision instrumentation, aerospace systems, navigation technologies, timing systems, or other deep-tech hardware sectors • Experience supporting government R&D organizations • Experience assessing emerging technologies, venture-backed startups, or advanced technology portfolios • Knowledge of manufacturing scale-up, product economics, or customer adoption dynamics • Possession of excellent written and verbal communication skills, with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Clearance: Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
