About the Opportunity

Job Summary The Antibiotic Discovery Center (ADC) at Northeastern University is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Technician to support the development and implementation of a target-based screening platform for antibiotic discovery, assist in downstream hit validation and compound isolation, and contribute to overall laboratory operations in a collaborative research environment.

Responsibilities • Contribute to development of a novel microfluidics-based high-throughput screening platform • Execute biochemical and microbiological assays to identify and validate antibacterial targets. • Support high-throughput and focused screening efforts, including assay development, optimization, and data analysis. • Participate in hit triage, secondary assays, and compound characterization, including natural product isolation and structure–activity studies. • Operate and maintain equipment supporting screening and compound purification (e.g., LC, HPLC, plate readers, microfluidics sorters). • Manage lab inventories, supplies, and safety compliance; coordinate maintenance and calibration of shared instruments. • Contribute to protocol development, data management, and preparation of reports and presentations. • Provide training and technical support to students and new lab members.

Qualifications • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field. • Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on research experience in an academic or industrial setting. • Technical expertise in molecular cloning, bacterial culture, and biochemical or enzymatic assays. • Experience with natural product extraction, chromatographic purification, or analytical instrumentation (e.g., LC-MS) is strongly preferred. • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to multitask in a dynamic research environment.

Compensation Grade/Pay Type: 108H Expected Hiring Range: $29.00 - $40.96 With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
