About the role
Company: Marsh Corporate
Description:
We are looking for an Associate FinOps Engineer who brings genuine, hands-on cloud cost management experience to a high-impact role within Marsh’s Cloud Platform Solutions team, based in Louisville, Austin, or Phoenix. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office, reporting to the Senior Manager, Cloud Platform Solutions.
This role sits at the intersection of FinOps domain expertise and engineering capability. You will bring deep familiarity with cloud billing data across AWS, Azure, and OCI, and the practical skills to build the systems that turn that data into cost visibility, waste reduction, and financial accountability. You will own the cost analysis logic, waste detection rules, anomaly detection workflows, and the front-end dashboards that engineering teams and finance stakeholders rely on — working alongside Databricks engineers and FinOps analysts as the subject matter expert who bridges both worlds.
The ideal candidate has spent meaningful time embedded in a FinOps team, is fluent in billing data schemas and cost modeling, has built cost visibility platforms and dashboards from the ground up, and treats AI as a natural part of their day-to-day workflow.
We will count on you to: • Own cloud cost analysis end to end — from raw billing data (AWS CUR, Azure Billing Exports, OCI, FOCUS) through to the insights, recommendations, and automated actions that reduce spend • Build and maintain waste detection logic across all three cloud providers, identifying and quantifying cost reduction opportunities across compute, storage, networking, and commitment coverage — with the expectation that the library of detections will grow over time • Work with stakeholders and service owners to design and maintain cost allocation models for shared spend, ensuring accurate chargeback and showback across teams and business units • Design and operate anomaly detection workflows that identify cost spikes early and build root cause analysis tooling that explains why — surfacing the specific resource, account, tag gap, or billing event responsible • Build front-end dashboards and UIs for cost allocation, waste reporting, and anomaly visualization — working directly with finance and engineering stakeholders to define the views they need • Define and document the cloud cost data model used by the Databricks analytics team, acting as the billing data SME for pipeline design and validation • Automate recommendations and remediations — routing actionable findings to engineering teams via Microsoft Teams, email, and ServiceNow; building approval-gated automated remediation for low-risk waste • Integrate LLM capabilities into the platform to enable natural language cost querying for non-technical stakeholders, with appropriate guardrails and audit controls
What you need to have: • 3–6 years of hands-on experience in a FinOps, cloud cost management, or cloud financial engineering role — genuine FinOps practice, not cloud engineering with some billing exposure • Deep working knowledge of AWS CUR, Azure Billing Exports, and OCI billing data — including schemas, amortization logic, and how Reserved Instances and Savings Plans flow through the data; familiarity with the FOCUS specification and cloud-agnostic cost data modeling • Proven experience identifying and quantifying waste opportunities across compute, storage, networking, and commitment coverage in multi-cloud environments • Proficiency in Python (production-quality code, APIs, automation workflows) and SQL (querying large, complex billing datasets); experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions for version control and CI/CD • Comfortable working in an Agile delivery environment using tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO); comfort using AI tools (Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) as a standard part of your development and analysis workflow
What makes you stand out: • FinOps Certified Practitioner (FCP) — FinOps Foundation, or demonstrably equivalent hands-on experience; proven track record building FinOps platforms or cost visibility tooling from the ground up • Experience building front-end dashboards or UIs for cost visibility — whether in React, Streamlit, Power BI, Tableau, or similar; experience building anomaly detection systems and performing root cause analysis on cloud cost deviations • Experience integrating LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) into production tools, including guardrail design and audit logging; familiarity with Databricks as a data platform consumer • Experience with ServiceNow workflow automation or Microsoft Teams adaptive cards/webhooks for recommendation and remediation delivery • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
Why join our team: • We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders. • We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have an impact on colleagues, clients and communities. • Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well-being.
