About the role
Overview
As Senior Director, Ethics, Compliance & Legal Technology, you will lead the technology-enabled transformation of the capabilities that support Alnylam’s Legal and Ethics & Compliance organizations. You will translate functional priorities into an integrated, multiyear roadmap spanning digital products, process simplification, data, automation, analytics, user experience, and operating-model change.
Serving as a trusted advisor to the Chief Compliance Officer, General Counsel, and their leadership teams, you will lead a defined technology domain within enterprise strategies, standards, architecture, security requirements, and investment governance. Success will be measured through adoption, process effectiveness, risk reduction, user experience, operational performance, and realized business value.
The position reports to the Vice President, G&A Technology and has one direct report. The role leads and develops a multidisciplinary team supporting product management, architecture, data, automation, user experience, change leadership, and delivery.
This hybrid role is based in Cambridge, MA.
Responsibilities
- Set and deliver the domain transformation strategy. Translate Legal, Ethics & Compliance, and Risk priorities into an integrated, outcome-based roadmap that simplifies processes, improves stakeholder experiences, strengthens controls, and delivers measurable business value.
- Lead the Ethics, Compliance, and Risk technology portfolio. Shape and modernize capabilities supporting case management, investigations, policies, training, monitoring, conflicts of interest, regulatory disclosures, third-party risk, controls, audit readiness, governance workflows, and risk analytics. Lead the full application lifecycle across this portfolio, including platform selection, implementation, integration, enhancement, support, and retirement.
- Transform Legal Operations technology. Improve how legal services are accessed and delivered through modern contract lifecycle management, intake and matter workflows, document and knowledge management, self-service, automation, analytics, and integration with enterprise platforms.
- Establish trusted data and analytics capabilities . Partner with functional stakeholders and enterprise Data, AI, Architecture, and Governance teams to define domain data models, integration patterns, quality standards, common definitions, reporting, and reusable data products within enterprise strategies and standards, enabling timely, transparent, and risk-informed decision-making.
- Enable domain AI opportunities. Identify and advance appropriate AI-enabled capabilities that improve legal-service delivery, compliance monitoring, investigations, contracting, risk insight, employee experience, and operational productivity. Partner with enterprise AI, Data, Architecture, Security, Privacy, Legal, and Compliance leaders to ensure use cases are scalable, secure, responsible, and aligned with enterprise governance.
- Drive portfolio performance, vendor accountability, and value realization. Prioritize investments based on value, risk, readiness, dependencies, and capacity; manage domain budgets and strategic vendors; retain end-to-end oversight and accountability for vendor-delivered technology work; simplify underused technologies; and measure adoption, operational performance, risk reduction, user experience, and return on investment.
- Lead enterprise partnerships and complex delivery. Advise senior functional leaders and partner across Procurement, Finance, HR, Security, Privacy, Records Management, Internal Audit, Data Governance, Enterprise Architecture, and platform teams to deliver secure, scalable, and well-governed capabilities.
- Build organizational capability. Lead and develop a high-performing multidisciplinary team, establish clear ownership and decision rights, and strengthen product, architecture, data, automation, experience, change, and delivery practices across the domain.
- Maintain compliance and role readiness. Complete all assigned company, regulatory, privacy, security, and GxP training and perform responsibilities in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, business, law, compliance, risk management, or a related field.
- 15+ years of progressive technology, digital product, or business-transformation leadership experience, including at least 10 years of experience supporting Legal, Ethics & Compliance, Governance, Risk, Privacy, Regulatory, or related corporate functions.
- Demonstrated success leading complex process and technology transformation in a highly regulated environment and delivering measurable improvements in effectiveness, efficiency, risk, experience, and value.
- Strong knowledge of Legal Operations, contract lifecycle management, Ethics & Compliance technology, governance, risk and compliance capabilities, third-party risk management, and relevant regulatory expectations.
- Experience developing multiyear strategies, modernizing enterprise platforms, simplifying application landscapes, strengthening integration and data foundations, and driving adoption and value realization.
- Proven financial, commercial, and people-leadership capability, including investment planning, vendor and contract management, team development, and leadership through ambiguity and change.
- Executive-level communication and influence skills, with demonstrated ability to advise senior leaders, create clarity, resolve complex tradeoffs, and align cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to travel periodically based on business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with platforms such as Ironclad, ServiceNow, case-management, policy-governance, third-party-risk, analytics, or comparable enterprise solutions.
- MBA, JD, relevant advanced degree, or applicable professional certification.

The pay range below reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
