Position Summary: WittKieffer is proud to partner with The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University in their search for a Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education, a highly visible executive leadership role responsible for advancing the College's educational mission and ensuring excellence across the medical education continuum. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of a growing, community-based medical school distinguished by its extensive network of clinical partners and commitment to preparing physicians for the evolving needs of patients and communities. Success in this role will require strong collaboration with faculty, hospitals, health systems, physician practices, and community organizations across a distributed clinical learning environment.

Florida Atlantic University (Florida Atlantic) is a public research university with ten colleges, 30,000 students, Carnegie R1 designation, and six campuses spanning more than 100 miles of coastline. The University has experienced remarkable growth in recent years, including significant increases in research activity, enrollment of National Merit Scholars, philanthropic support, student success outcomes, and national recognition. In 2026, Florida Atlantic was named among the nation's Top 100 Public Universities by U.S. News & World Report, reflecting its continued trajectory as a leading institution of higher education.

Created to address Florida's growing healthcare workforce needs, the Schmidt College of Medicine admitted its first class of students in 2011 and has rapidly established itself as an innovative, community-based medical school. The College includes 175 faculty members (103 full-time and 72 part-time), 1,274 affiliate faculty, 326 medical students, 181 residents and fellows, and 70 graduate students in biomedical science programs.

Five local hospitals from leading healthcare systems in the region, including Baptist Health and Tenet Health, serve as key partners in undergraduate medical education and participate in the Graduate Medical Education Consortium. In addition, the College maintains affiliations with Cleveland Clinic Florida, HCA Healthcare, and regional behavioral health organizations. In addition, the College is home to the Florida Atlantic Medical Group and maintains a close relationship with the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience, providing exceptional opportunities for clinical education, research, and academic collaboration.

Reporting directly to the Dean of the Schmidt College of Medicine and serving as a key member of the Dean's senior leadership team, the Senior Associate Dean is the College's senior executive leader for the medical education mission, with primary responsibility for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME). The Senior Associate Dean provides strategic direction, executive oversight, and accountability for the quality, integration, innovation, outcomes, and accreditation of the College's four-year M.D. program. The role also includes executive oversight of Student Affairs and Admissions, ensuring alignment among admissions policies, recruitment and selection processes, student support, academic progression, career advising, and residency preparation. In partnership with the Associate Dean for Admissions and Associate Dean for Student Affairs, the Senior Associate Dean will align these functions with the College’s mission, enrollment goals, and expectations for student readiness and success while fostering learner well-being, professionalism, and a positive learning environment.

Working closely with associate and assistant deans, department chairs, course and clerkship directors, faculty, staff, students, and clinical and community partners, the Senior Associate Dean will ensure a cohesive and high-quality educational experience across the continuum of medical education. A particular emphasis will be placed on maintaining educational excellence and consistency across the College's community-based and geographically distributed clinical education model while expanding and strengthening clinical learning opportunities for students.

The Senior Associate Dean will provide leadership for the continued evolution of an innovative, learner-centered curriculum that integrates foundational and clinical sciences while advancing emerging areas of medical education, including health systems science, artificial intelligence, nutrition, point-of-care ultrasound, and other evolving competencies required for contemporary medical practice. The individual will oversee curriculum governance, assessment systems, accreditation readiness, faculty development, educational outcomes, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. A major near-term priority is senior leadership of the College’s preparation for the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accreditation process and the continued development of a sustainable, data-informed culture of continuous quality improvement before and after the visit.

As a key ambassador for the College, the Senior Associate Dean will cultivate and strengthen relationships with health systems, hospitals, physician groups, community organizations, and other educational partners to secure and expand high-quality clinical training opportunities in an increasingly competitive environment. The successful candidate will bring the vision, credibility, operational acumen, and relationship-building skills necessary to support the College's continued growth, advance educational innovation, and position the medical education enterprise for future expansion and success.
