UW Bothell has an exciting opening for an Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni Engagement. This is a full-time permanent position.
The Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni Engagement (AVC) provides executive leadership for broad-based engagement efforts that build and maintain relationships with key constituencies, including UW Bothell alumni, parents and family members, retirees, community and civic organizations, and local residents. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Advancement and serving on the Advancement leadership team and Chancellor's Cabinet, the AVC is responsible for establishing long-range goals, objectives, and strategies; developing and implementing engagement initiatives that advance University; cultivating and strengthening relationships with internal and external partners; and identifying opportunities to raise awareness, inspire engagement, and support the mission and goals of UW Bothell through meaningful stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
What You Will Do
Leadership and Team management (continuously overlaid in all duties)
• Provide leadership and manage the Alumni Engagement team. Also, provide leadership to the UW Bothell Advancement team in collaboration with the Vice Chancellor for Advancement. • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Alumni Engagement team. • Create and manage the budget of the Alumni Engagement team with discretionary authority • Manage a team of professionals who will plan and execute programming in support of engagement initiatives and priorities. • Hire and oversee contract vendors as appropriate. Oversee and approve specification for bids and cost estimates as provided by the production managers • Lead UW Bothell Advancement’s Alumni Engagement team, including guidance and oversight of projects and workflow and general project timelines • Responsible for management, staff development and career enrichment for the Alumni Engagement team. . Alumni Engagement Program Development and Management (40%)
- Build and strengthen mutually beneficial relationships between UW Bothell (its leadership, faculty, and staff) and its alumni.
- Work in close partnership with UWAA to leverage and expand existing and new alumni events, experiences, and opportunities for UWB and throughout tri-campus.
- Develop appropriate engagement metrics to guide and track effective and meaningful projects and activities.
- Explore opportunities to strengthen affinity for UW Bothel from UW alumni from all campuses who live within close geographic proximity to UWB campus.
- Evaluate the opportunities for (and subsequently, if appropriate, build and activate) volunteer committees and boards, including school-specific groups.
- Supervise the planning and execution of multiple alumni events per year, including the UWB 5K (1,000+ people). Work collaboratively with academic schools to mutually plan and align alumni engagement activities to provide alumni with a cohesive experience that offers both UW Bothell and school-specific opportunities for engagement.
- Oversee the production of alumni communications, including editorial content, informational materials, marketing collateral, web content, e-newsletters, and social media pages, ensuring all collateral maintains brand alignment, has a high-level of professionalism, and retains consistent messaging across all Advancement.
- Partnering with the Development team to encourage UW Bothell philanthropic giving within the alumni community.
Public Engagement (30%)
- Manage the planning and execution of annual public engagement events, such as the Bothell Block Party and public lectures, leveraging the events to increase engagement with both internal and external stakeholders and ensuring events are financially sustainable.
- Create, sustain, and build upon a series of community events and activities that bring the community onto the UW Bothell campus and deliver on public promise.
- Leverage existing campus events to build connections with external communities.
- Seek opportunities to foster and expand relationships with local chamber of commerce, such as the Bothell/Kenmore Chamber.
- Deepen relationships with the City of Bothell, to build upon our place-based campus identity.
Strategy Development (25%)
- Review existing set of activities, programs, outputs, and use of resources. Develop recommendation for three-year plan, in coordination with campaign planning (associated and necessary resources, metrics to track, and outcomes to measure).
- Provide strategy-driven leadership and partnership to reporting staff and fellow colleagues.
Other Duties (5%)
- Use data, surveys, and other evaluation tools to measure outcomes of all activities; engage in continuous improvement.
- Collaborate, communicate, and coordinate all planned activities across UW Bothell and UW Bothell Advancement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree AND 8 years of experience in higher education advancement, alumni relations, community engagement, strategy operations or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in alumni relations within a college or university setting.
- Knowledge of advancement and development principles, policies, procedures, and development databases.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute engagement strategies, programs, and events.
- Experience using data and metrics to inform strategy, set goals, and evaluate performance.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with executive leaders, volunteers, boards, and other key stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience engaging and managing volunteers and nonprofit or advisory boards.
- Strong leadership experience, including staff supervision, organizational planning, and budget management.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse constituencies.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Self-starter with the ability to work effectively in a goal-oriented environment.
What You Can Expect • Hybrid-work schedule with three days in the office and two days eligible for telework per week. • Cubicle/open workspace environment that may result in higher noise levels and visual distractions. • Workload and times may vary, including occasional evenings or weekends. • Access to reliable transportation for local travel and willingness to travel when necessary.
